My little review of the Q6600

I have finished the build of the new Intel Core2 QUAD Q6600.

I burned in the system with CPU BURN and had some serous problems with the stock cooler and heat. First let me say i hate the way Intel designed the new hold down clamps for the heatsink they just..suck!

I was getting some real bad temps on the stock cooler that came with the CPU. I checked and reseated the HS 4 times same results and yes the fan was running and it was fully seated with Arctic silver 5, I changed out the heat sink with a Termaltake Big Typhoon the results are much better and I have to say it is the best AIR cooler I've ever owned. I loaded the CPU using the BIONIC Distributed computing program running Rosetta protein program.

Stock cooler No Load
45 to 50c

Thermaltake No Load
30 to 32c

Sock cooler Loaded
65 to 70c !! WTF

Thermaltake Loaded
45c to 48c

Benchmarks are as follows 3DMARK05 and 06 Sisoft Sandra results are on the following ASUS P5N32SLI Plus with 2 GB crucial Billistix PC1066 and 2 BFG 7800 GT OC SLI

05 3Dmark 12893
05 CPU score 9265

O6 3DMARK 7577
06 CPU Score 4107 Marks

Sisoft Sandra benchmark
Processor Arithmetic

Dhrystones 48799 MIPS
Whetstones 33560 MFLOPS

Processor Multi-media

Integer SSE3 289317
Floating point 157283

Overall now that i got the temperature issue resolved I am very impressed with the Q6600 it is FASSSTTT games seem to run smoother with it. I can also run 4 things at once burn a DVD while running a game server and playing that game.
One piece of advice if you go to get a Q6600 make sure you get the Revision G0 not the B3. G0 Rev has a better thermal output number and is just the second revision of the Q6600.

I have not stress tested mine much yet, but it is FAST. Particularly coming off my old p4 630 @ 4.0ghz.

Also worth mentioning, I am running it at stock speed. I tried pin/pad moding it, but was unable to get it to run at 1333FSB. I will probably try again soon, when I get some time. Until then, it's still stupid fast so it does not really matter.
