Update:

I called and they gave me a 12 month promotional rate, $33 for the digital DVR package, and $33 for the modem/internet!

That's better than half off! 8)

Yea, because they're hemorrhaging customs I'd guess. I think we're at about $130 for all 3 services now. Even when we were on Comcrap it was about $125 for just Internets & TeeVees.

Erik, I work for comcast. That sounds like a retention rate plan. See if you have promotion written on your bill, if it is a promotion, and you threaten to leave comcast, the retention department might extend your plan. A plain promotional rate can't be extended though. I can take a look at your account on Monday to make sure your not getting overcharged.

Erik, our basic digital service and internet still has a 6 month promotion for $33 each. Your DVR will be around 13.95 and the same for any premium channels, HBO etc... looks like you should still be under 90 per month

That's still the latest model.

Use the DVR problem to get the $33 rate too. Call up with problems for the cable, then tell them you wanna quit, they should transfer you to retentions. You need retentions because we usaully only give the $33 to new customers.

If you can't get retention, it will be around $120

LoL, some of the folks at the counter are not the brightest.

I was over on metro drive today in the city, and had my old old modem and a really old cable box in my car for whenever I was near a comcast and could drop it off.

I dropped them off today, and the dumbass behind the counter somehow dropped my whole account. Got home, and the internet was toast. Had to call in and get it all set back up again. (account + my (personal) modem)

Ugh.

On another note, do they have an HD only box, as in no DVR? Any cheaper??

LOL, he probably dropped your master box, which was connected to the bundle.

We do have a plain HD box, 10.99 I think, like 4 bucks cheaper.

So did the guy on the phone solve your problem in under 10mins?

So I gave them a ring today, and they give me a big ol' F & U. She didn't transfer me anywhere, just said to bring the gear back to the retail center. Damn.

Rat bastards. Anything you can do Yari? Or am I going to have to eat a whole can of pringles?

So long, Comcast. Your cavalier attitude yesterday sealed the deal.

I signed up today for dish, a 4 room HD DVR setup with the programming I was looking for without a ton of other crap that I would never watch. They threw in all the gear/install/activation/cinemax for a year/one free month/etc.

Monthly cost (not a promo) = $42.

I also signed up for verizon DSL. I really used to hate DSL, but they have come a long way. We have a DSL line here at the office along with the cable line, and the DSL oddly enough is more reliable. They also threw in the gear/etc and a free month. It will be slower than the cable, but I really don't need a ton of speed. If I do, the next speed bump is only another $10. (6/2, which is what I have with comcash)

Montly cost (not a promo) = $20. (It would have been less if I have phone service, but I have vonage for that and they have been excellent while keeping a steady rate of only $30/mo.)

Total monthly cost = about $65 once govt fees are in. A killer deal considering comcash upped me to around $130 for less functionality. Half price is nice. :)

Forgot to mention, the current $130 at comcast "is" the discounted rate these days. Regular was $160 something. F that.

...and I can't friggin' wait to punt kick this steaming piece of shit motorola DVR. The damn thing won't record shit, couldn't hold much when it would, overheats if you look at it funny, locks up, and does other random wierd things. :pissoff:

So I have had dish for a week now, all I have to say is, "damn!"

The equipment is simply outstanding. Intelligent, intuitive, reliable design. It works perfectly, every time. The dual tuner feature works 100%, I have DVR'd 2 programs at once, while watching another back. The comcast box would lock up if you were recording *anything* and changed the channel, let alone try to record 2 things or watch something else. Interface is really well thought out.

Finally, you can attach an external drive! You cannot do this with comcast, period. The HDD included is 500gb, compared to the 120gb in the comcast box. You can also playback video/pics via flash drive in the front panel port.

Service is excellent. They cram less channels per band then comcast, so the content looks much better side-by-side. No dropout during the ice storm last week, either.

Customer service is excellent as well. They had initially charged $5 per box extra for programming data if it is not attached to a network, which it now is so they removed the charges and were easy about it. Hold time, >1 minute.

I should have switched sooner!

DSL - works great, and easy to setup. Speed is slow, but will do fine for me. 1.5mb up, 400k down. For $20/mo (standard rate) it's a deal.

Yeah a friend of mine works for Verizon. He uses their FIOS system, but he uses Dish for TV. Dish has much better package programs for those that want specific things. The only problem is the HD relies on satellite coverage which can be iffy at times, but most of the time is pretty good. He usually only has a problem when trying to get HD during really cloudy or overcast days since the HD requires a 71% or greater signal.

Word, I am waiting on the first serious storm to see how it behaves. Even if it totally drops out during heavy storms, that's fine with me for the $. Besides, I have been working the DVR, hard. It has plenty of movies/shows on it. 8)
