I think you are jumping a little on the gun there. They are talking about treating kids who have an abnormal deficiency causing higher levels of bad cholesterol, their body just has a hard time getting rid of it. These are the same people who will later on in life experience increased problems with heart disease. Note they say in the next paragraph after the one about the deficiency that overweight children should 'first' control their weight with diet and exercise. The article is just oversimplifying the issue so it seems more ridiculous than it is. But it is pretty much another way we are trying to play God by creating all these drugs to supposedly improve our health. But in the end I think this will just hamstring us as we start weeding out all the naturally created defenses our bodies have with more drugs, causing more and more problems in later generations.
