Looks like a nice setup man. The only thing that comes to mind is the CPU, I would go with the q6600. They are getting dirt cheap, and will OC to 3.0ghz on a 1333FSB all day long. They can be pinmodded in 5 seconds to run at this speed with no bios configurations needed. All you need is some electrical tape. You could probably save around $100 and get a faster CPU going this route...

alright..I was iffy on the cpu. I changed it out for the q6600, i think that list updates automagically. The main reason for the first one was the 1333 fsb so I'm happy to save the dough this way. But if I go any cheaper I won't be able to get their no payments plan!

My suggestion is as follows:

Antec P182 Case -- Very nice well extremely well put together case.
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX -- Gigabyte makes some good boards.
Q9550 Processor w/ XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler -- More cache, higher clocks, good CPU cooler
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 -- G.Skill makes some really good memory
WD SE16 640GB x2 -- Faster drive for the money on the market.
EVGA GeForce 9600 GT SSC Edition -- Great card for a great price. If not this, I would suggest an ATI Radeon 4850
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R -- Lite-On sucks the big one.
PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V PSU -- Never skimp on the power supply, but Tagan is supposed to be a good supply as well. I just have had some issues with modular supplies and PC Power and Cooling has been rock solid.

I really didnt like the separate compartment setup here. I don't know... it just didnt look right to me.

Although this case would save me a lot of money since I won't need any bling inside.

NoOther wrote:GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX -- Gigabyte makes some

I like gigabyte too. I think im going to switch to the not sli version of this board.

NoOther wrote:Q9550 Processor w/ XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler -- More

This was my first choice. :) Stud suggested I OC the Q6600, so I'm going to see how that goes first.

NoOther wrote:G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 -- G.Skill makes

These are only a couple dollars more. Bought.

NoOther wrote:WD SE16 640GB x2 -- Faster drive for the money on the market.

hmmm... That specs looked almost identicale, but I read a couple of benchs and this drive seemed

to own. bought.

x2? Are you suggesting raid? 0 or 1?

NoOther wrote:EVGA GeForce 9600 GT SSC Edition -- Great card for a great price. If not this, I

I was looking at the 4850... but the 8800GT benched similiar results in all the games I cared about.

Lite-On Quality!!! LOL
Agreed, but I am a cheap bastard and have had pretty good luck with these.

I love PCPC, and newegg has a great deal on their silencer 750 right now. ($100 dollars off!) I really

wanted modular though, so I am still on the fence over which one to get.

I hoped I didn't dissapoint, you can also see many of my comments these days on Extremetech if anyone peruses that site.

Yari wrote:I really didnt like the separate compartment setup here. I don't know... it just didnt look right to me.

Its a very quiet case and very good at keeping things neat and cool inside. It has received a lot of high marks for its design and price. Mostly I was going with a case that would offer a lot at a good price. Certainly I like some of the CoolerMaster cases more, but they also cost more. A current popular lower budget CoolerMaster case is the 690. You might want to look at that one also.

Yari wrote:I like gigabyte too. I think im going to switch to the not sli version of this board.

No point in getting the extra SLI stuff if you don't need it, but some of the boards have extra features as well or overclock a little better. I was just looking to find a good comparable board by Gigabyte that I know some other people have had success with.

Yari wrote:This was my first choice. :) Stud suggested I OC the Q6600, so I'm going to see how that goes first.

The Q6600 is a solid performer no doubt about that. The Q9550 is an excellent processor though with good overclocking, lower power usage and much more cache. It is a favorite among enthusiasts right now.

Yari wrote:hmmm... That specs looked almost identicale, but I read a couple of benchs and this drive seemed

The specs seem identical but WD did some nice new things with these drives. The 640 is actually 2 320 platters with a bunch of nifty technology built into it. They are really quick and have been very solid performers for everyone I know who has bought them. Plus they save you a lot of money over their 10k RPM brothers who only give a little bit more performance. As for the RAID, I would suggest RAID 0 for speed and storage. RAID 1 only gives you a mirrored drive for a bit more data security. I would get a separate external drive or something for that.

Yari wrote:I was looking at the 4850... but the 8800GT benched similiar results in all the games I cared about.

There was a lot of hoopla lately about the 9600GT in comparison with the 4850 also. It brings a few newer features to the table at a really good price. It is actually better than the 8800GT with a little more compatability. DirectX 11 is coming out soon too, so better probably to get what is reasonable and performs well and wait to see what the DirectX 11 cards bring to the table. Although nVidia has said that its 8800 and later series should be able to handle some of the DirectX 11 stuff.

Yari wrote:Lite-On Quality!!! LOL

I am a cheap bastard too, but the samsung was only $22 and I just went through 2 crappy Lite-On drives. I might still have the one if you want it heh. It isn't compatible with my motherboard or Vista, one of the 2.

Yari wrote:I love PCPC, and newegg has a great deal on their silencer 750 right now. ($100 dollars off!) I really

I really like modular PSU's as well, but I have had issues with them. I don't know what it is about the modular design that leads to higher failure rates, there was a report awhile ago on what causes it, but I just don't remember. For the most part though, they can be solid PSU's. The non-modular PSU's tend to have better stability and efficiency. My PC Power and Cooling 860 seemed to be the only PSU that could handle my system properly and I tried a few 1000W PSUs. If someone could accuse me of being a shill for a particular company, it would probably be PC Power and Cooling. But honestly I saw the price on newegg and thought it was an exceptional deal. Otherwise the Tagan is also a pretty solid psu.

Overall the build seemed to be pretty solid, my suggestions were mostly based on better cooling (case and CPU heatsink) and a little better performance. The only thing I really felt strongly against was the Lite-On, I have been burned too much lately by their hardware.

Sounds like a good system, I overclocked my q6600 to 3.0GHz no the Freezer 7 Pro without a problem, I now have it at 3.6GHz on water on an EVGA 780i. My friend at work did 4.1 on his system a 680i check it out.

Yari, I did have some other LCD suggestions, but the one you selected I know for a fact several other people have had decent experiences with. Any LCD though runs the risk of dead pixels. Several of us have also talked about how well our Dell LCDs have done, but you pay more of a price premium for those. I also like Sceptre, but I have heard people have issues with them. So really the best LCD panels are the most expensive usually too. Samsung almost always makes good displays, Viewsonic does as well. There is another company out there, can't remember the name of them at the moment that offers a Zero dead pixel policy. But it's another expensive model. You tend to get what you pay for. But like I said some people have bought those lower end models and have had good experiences.

MaximumPC mag did an article recently on monitors, it was a good ready & ran the gamut from cheap-o low ends to the high-end models. My 19" Samsung has served me well, it's over 3 years old I think, so I may be shopping soon too.
