New CPU

Postby Forbidden Donut on Fri Jan 16, 2004 8:34 am

I know I should be posting this in the Tech forum but I think more people hang out at this one. Anywho, I'm VERY much considering getting the xp3200+ (400fsb) with my tax dough and was wondering if anyone here has used one and what they upgraded from. Trying to get an idea of whether or not its worth the upgrade (actually I think I'm just trying to justify the purchase, cuz I've pretty much made up my mind to get it). I'm running the p3wter in my sig. Thanx for any advice/opinions!

Sounds like a great upgrade to me, not that I have it. Although if I was upgrading my mobo too, I'd get the 64 instead.

Athlon XP 3200+

Postby Merlin on Fri Jan 16, 2004 12:58 pm

I upgraded from the 1800 to a 2600 I noticed the differance there though I had to buy a new motherboard to support the 333 FSB I went with the ASUS A7N8X deluxe VERY good board.

If you have patience I would save and do an Athlon 64 3000+ Great chip and get the ASUS K8V Deluxe board. On pricewatch.com the chip is $211 and the board is 134.87 $345.87 and buy the time you get your Taxes back might be cheaper too.

later

The K8V Deluxe has some capacitor problems. I'm not sure if Asus has fixed it yet.

Read about it here.

maybe you should just get a HT P4 and be done with it, or if you are gonna stay AMD get the DFI nforce mobo that murphy has, it supports 400mhz fsb and a buncha other stuff too, as for the processor, i have read real good thing about the 400mhz fsb processors, but you get more bang for your buck with a HT P4, once again i suggest the DFI 875 lanparty for that too. Course you can do like merlin said and get a athlon64 which owns all (mine will still be better though)
